Ingredients
- 1.4 liters water
- 360 ml fresh orange juice
- 240 ml maple syrup or honey
- 8 Hibiscus bags (or 3 tbsp loose)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 pinch mild chili powder or cayenne (optional)
- Orange slices and whole cloves (garnish)
Preparation
- 1. Heat water, juice, and syrup until almost boiling, turn off.
- 2. Add hibiscus, cover, steep 5-7 mins, remove.
- 3. Mix paprika and chili if using.
- 4. Keep warm on low heat and serve in mugs.
- 5. Garnish with clove-studded orange slices.
Notes
Adult use. Hibiscus may lower blood pressure in some people. Pregnant or nursing women, and people trying to conceive, should use caution with hibiscus. This recipe may have high sugar content, so people with diabetes should adjust it. Paprika and chili are optional and should be used sparingly if you have a sensitive stomach. Consume the same day.
